This past Monday I made a trip out to the bay area (Alameda California) to take a tour of the USS Hornet. The history of the Hornet is a good one. But what I remember is the splashdown of the Apollo 11 Astronauts and President Nixon visiting the Airstream trailer in the hanger desk of the aircraft carrier. And yes it’s there in the museum to check out.

The Hornet museum is mostly a self-guided tour but there are docent lead groups that are very informative. I caught up with three old timers that spent years on the Hornet that gave wonderful tour of the engine room, electrical area, 4^th deck and the tower. These guys were great and I spend a lot of time just talking to them. The great thing was I was in a group with only a couple of people at a time which was a one on one personal tour. They’re walking and talking history of the Hornet. The rest of the time I spent wondering and getting lost within the ship.

Everyone is saying that I look like I got the shit beat out of me. First since I’m allergic to bee stings I thought I might have gotten bit with something. Sad but true it’s neither of these things. What I have is Zoster (Herpes zoster ophthalmicus) or Shingles. Go figure? I itch something terrible, have horrible headache and it’s very painful. The doctor claims that my immune system was weakened and that caused the chicken pox immunity to weaken. I strained my back a week ago that put me out of commission for a week but outside that I feel my normal typical self. Who knows what happened but this is miserable and it take 4 to six weeks to clear up.

This morning while cleaning my home office I can upon this photo I took in September 1978. I think the date of the photo is between the 10^th and 12th of September 1978, not very sure.  I took this photo on one of my trips across country and just happened upon Gettysburg at the time of the Camp David Peace talks. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

I knew something was about to go on because guys with suits were checking us out and German Shepard dogs gave us a good sniff.  Then guys started to rope off the monuments were I was standing and out of a limo came President Jimmy Carter, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. This all happened in a very brief time and then they were gone.

Am I the only person to move the couch and vacuum? Cleaning the house is my last task for 2011.
